Cis allies, I need you to write to your MP and ask them to vote against snatching human rights away from trans people. Do it today. Here’s my letter. Don’t copy it. Write your own. theyworkforyou.com

Letter to my MP. Not much hope bc he’s a Tory who voted against same-sex marriage, but perhaps he’ll at least feel bad when he votes to snatch my human rights away. I hope it fucking haunts him tbh.

Dear [MP’s name redacted],

I am constituent of yours and I am transgender. My existence is becoming increasingly precarious. On 5th April 2023, the EHRC met with members of the LGBTQ community and admitted that their position on the definition of “biological sex” is out of step with equivalent bodies in other countries and that, if their recommendations to—for example—forcing trans people to use the public bathroom for the birth-assigned gender—they would effectively force us out of participation in society. I have worked all my adult lift in education. I am 38. I am good at my job and I care about my students. I am a peripatetic music teacher and I visit in several primary schools each week and teach over 300 children in a mixture of classes of 30, small groups and 1:1. I am out as trans and nonbinary in all my workplaces. I came out at work several years ago with support from my managers and trade union because the Equality Act protects me. Being out not only adds to the plethora of different types of people my students knowingly encounter, learn to tolerate, and have as their role models, but it makes me a better teacher as I am no-longer having to divert part of my attention to hiding who am while I work. I am genuinely afraid that we will come to a point soon where I, and other transgender people, are barred from schools, or forced to go stealth if we can: a new Section 28 (I lived through the first one as a queer child and I still carry the mental scars). So
and I still carry the mental scars). So much so that I have begun to work a second job in sexual health outreach on a 0 hours contract so that should it become unviable for me to continue working with children, I will at least have some income.

I am afraid for myself and my trans community. What are you going to do to resist the attempts to scapegoat and demonise us? How are you going to resist legislation to force us out of public toilets, out of schools and into the closet? Can I count on you to represent your marginalised constituents and advocate for us, or will you throw me and my trans siblings under the bus? Need I remind you that Brianna Ghey was murdered because of the transphobia whipped up by the media and the Government? Failure to stand with us actively kills us.
I do hope you find it in your heart to see me as a human, just as you are, and defend my rights. Thank you.

Yours sincerely,
This is a big ask, but David has been trying to raise money to take care of his family and investigate a possible elder abuse case against his grandfather. He's still about $2k away from his goal.

[CW homophobia in image] I’d love to talk abt how we’re seeing a rise in gonorrhoea & chlamydia & one of the factors *might* (I said *might* & there are other factors too) be that people on PrEP are ditching condoms, but it’s very nuanced and this bigot’s tirade is not the place
Screenshot tweet reads: “Oh well then, I guess the last 30 years of gay men getting and dying from aids far higher than the rest of the population is irrelevant. Just ignore all the modern STDs: Gonorreah, chlamydia, and who could forget MonkeyPox 🤣(gay men sure have become more sexually responsible).”
MPox vaccine pop-up clinic in Bethnal Green 3-6pm tomorrow (13th June). You need to book a free ticket via the link. Deadline for the first vax is this Friday, 16th June and for the second it’s the end of July.

Of all the people who’ve been crying loudly in national media about how single-grade Ofsted results are harmful to head teachers, *not one* has added “and single-grade exam results for our students”. Not one. Our attitude to our students shows in what we say and it stinks.

Do we, as institutions and those complicit in/with the institutions, see our students as people—real, actual people—or do we see them as numbers, problems to be solved, empty vessels to be moulded into what’s most convenient for the smooth running of the institution?

We expect students to suck up and cope with treatment—denial of toilet breaks, extreme policing of appearance, single-grade judgements that can have ramifications for the rest of their lives, for example—we don’t expect adults working in the same schools to tolerate.

Going to re-state my unpopular Ofsted opinion given the discourse in today’s news media: If a single-word judgement is unfair for a school, then a single letter or number judgement (eg, SAT, GCSE, A level, T level, etc exams) is unfair for our students.

So a lot has happened since the start of our little journey to try and escape Florida. I was hospitalized, my mother-in-law died and we had to travel to New York. We did however get to see a couple places we might call home while here. Thank you to all.❤️
