iron & steel are metastable. we expend energy to turn iron ore into iron & steel, and it just wants to turn back.
just *replacing* that corroded steel with fossil-based steels, could account for ~4-9% of 2030 emissions.
unless .. we replace it with zero-emissions steel 😏
