Candace’s great-grandparents immigrated to the United States from Mexico and her great-grandfather fought in World War I. Her grandfather fought in World War II. For generations, her family has been committed to serving our country and many other immigrant families do the same.

Instead of allowing ICE to terrorize immigrants, we need to provide them with a path to citizenship and codify the DREAM ACT, so that they may live safely while continuing to make the United States a more diverse, equitable and prosperous place.

We have seen firsthand in Texas how ICE has repeatedly failed to protect immigrants’ legal right to asylum in the United States. The Supreme Court’s recent refusal means that local law enforcement may rebuff ICE’s attempted enforcement of Trump’s inhumane immigration policies.
