When I started raising my family in TX-24, I realized our school district board wasn't representative of the people in this area, like people of color or low-income families. I decided to run, and defeated an 18-year incumbent who had the backing of the Republican establishment.

I became the first woman of color on the CFBISD School Board. During my time there, we expanded free lunches, created free dinners, gave teachers pay raises, and made our schools more equitable by providing tablets and laptops to every student.
