While I am not a veteran, I come from 3 generations of military service and have seen the effects war has on those who serve. My great-grandfather came to the US from Mexico and fought in World War I. My grandfather fought in World War II, and my mom and dad met in the Army.

Though I am proud of their work, there are many unseen costs to their service that face veterans and their families. Our country needs to honor our veterans and service members by ensuring they have access to what they need. (3/4)

If they served when you were young, then so did you. Military families are serving all over the world as their parents or partners serve.

Thank you! Both my mom and dad were overseas (separately!) while I was still in diapers. People ask me how I'm going to serve in Congress while I have a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old, but this hardly compares to the difficulties my parents faced. I'll see my boys far more.
