I paid $60 to take Cinto to urgent care and paid another $20 for meds. That's before the "surprise" bill they'll send me later. There are times in my life when that would have been a day’s worth of pay. (3/5)

I think a lot about 1) the time that would have cost me at least a day's pay, not counting the loss of pay because I've never had paid sick leave and 2) the women detained on the border with sick babies, sleeping on concrete, with no access to flu shots. (4/5)

Even in optimal conditions, a baby with an 105° fever is scary. I spent the night in my safe, warm bed monitoring his temperature and alternating his and thanking God for the privilege, and for the strength to fight for other families to be safe and warm too. (5/5)
