The $5000 raise for Texas teachers sounds attractive on its face, but it's basically a trojan horse, sneaking in an unfunded mandate in 2 years when the state fails to fund it and ISDs are left holding the bill. #TxEd #txlege

Furthermore, this blanket pay raise glosses over the real work that the lege needs to do to adequately fund public schools: 1) Do a school fund study that is less than 3 decades old. 2) Close corporate tax loopholes that yield no ROI for average Texans.

#1 is unlikely because anti-public school politicians don't want Texans to know the extent of their neglect. #2 is unlikely because it means politicians have to take handouts back from friends and donors.

Anti-public school politicians are strip-mining our children's economic future in the guise of fiscal conservatism. Inadequately funding schools to save money is like skipping oil changes to save money; in the long run you're going to be stalled and unable to work.
