It is kinda stupid but the old system was kinda flawed. All you needed was a certain amount of subs to be verified. Which also could be accomplish via bots to scam people in comments

Let me add more to my comment. They could've done this a much better way by just keeping larger channels that have been around for a while verified. Smaller/New channels should appeal for a new verification. This also gives the opportunity for realy small channels to be verified

I'm not opposed to making a new sistem, so long it doesn't have a negative impact on the creators. I get the "flaw" you point out but it doesn't justify this "you are now unverified" bs.
