    This is an extraordinary and shocking story unfortunately behind a paywall. The woman concerned was at school with Johnson’s sister and is married to an ex Etonian Tory MP (naturally). Its all fine on that merry go round.

    Author is who deservedly won a major award for the book. Stunning research and a really important social history. Been thinking about it for days, especially given our wretched government's attitudes to class and poverty

    Just read ‘The Five,’ a book about the five women murdered by Jack the Ripper. Anyone know their names? The book tells their story in real human detail and the murderer is almost an appendage. Brilliant book. Right approach. (Ps show off time. I read it in German)

    I am going for slightly unusual looking trees today. Tree of the Day is Pic 1. It looks like one thick tree foreground and a second light and flimsy one background. But it is all one tree. Look closely pic 3 and you will see a squirrel having a little rest. All in Regent’s Park
