This past year highlighted just how vital local news is to our daily lives. These journalists support our communities, and Facebook is proud to support them. We look forward to building more tools and services to help local writers expand their reach and serve their audiences.

In April, we announced a $5M commitment to support independent, local journalists interested in starting or continuing their work on Facebook Bulletin. Today, we are happy to share the 25 local writers selected to launch publications on Bulletin!

We launched Bulletin with the goal of providing a sustainable, profitable model for writers to publish their work and grow their reach. We also committed ourselves to giving a platform to diverse voices and views, and these 30 additions certainly reflect that.

Last month, we launched Bulletin – a new approach to publishing and subscription for independent writers, experts and thought leaders. Through Bulletin, creators can build out their own websites, distribute newsletters and expand and engage with their audience.

This is humbling and important work for us, and we're coming into a crowded space. But If we can help bring more attention (and more $) to great writing and journalism, that's a good thing. There's a lot we hope to learn and build upon in the coming months.

Bulletin writers will keep all subscription revenue for the length of these partnerships, and have the ability to take their subscriber lists and content with them. We're committed to ensuring creators own their content and their relationships, not us.

We're bringing on a number of local reporters throughout the US as well, and we’ll have more to share about that group in the coming weeks. We believe these writers can benefit in unique ways from the reach of our platform and its role connecting local communities.

Yes, I know. Creator economy is everyone's favorite catchphrase right now. But helping writers find readers, connect more deeply with them, and ultimately build sustainable businesses around their work are areas where we can help.

Today's the day! We just launched Bulletin - a set of publishing and subscription tools for independent writers to help them create their own websites, send newsletters, and most importantly, find and engage with audiences on Facebook as well.
