Jose Guillen-Vega, a 70-year-old Costa Rican, died in ICE custody Monday due to a "cardiopulmonary arrest, secondary to complications" of COVID-19, the agency says. 5 immigrants have died in ICE custody after getting the virus. 4,444 have tested positive while in custody.
18 immigrants have died in ICE custody this fiscal year, including 14 in 2020. ICE says it has taken all the necessary steps to safeguard detained immigrants and staff during the pandemic. The virus, however, has continued to spread inside its facilities:https://www.ice.gov/coronavirus
