It is undeniably weird and unsettling to see a Managua-based anarchist citing *only* the Indio Maiz fire and the INSS reforms – in both cases, where they actually side with the right here and even the IMF – in describing the protests to anti-authoritarian comrades...

There are so many other issues that could be invoked as the "origin of the protest" that would better serve their argument for anarchist solidarity... But those are the two Miranda chose to cite...

But Miranda, even with an eager and receptive anarchist audience, glosses entirely over all those other issues. They say: "All protesting at this point... now against authoritarianism, against all the bad things that the government has done since they came in power in 2006."

Alright. So now, since they have only cited two clearly, rightwing-inspired "issues" behind the protests (instead of numerous, potential other issues they ignored entirely), Miranda addresses the "rightwing conspiracy" suggestion:pic.twitter.com/oqhqktzLfK

It's "completely false." Even though the US NED has spent over $4 million in NGOs in Nicaragua since 2014, specifically on vaguely "pro democracy" and "civic participation" groups here.https://twitter.com/OLAASM/status/990365095640346624 …

The claim that they have been "very vigilant" against rightwing co-optation doesn't bear out, given the two e.g.'s used are rightwing talking points, they excluded leftist arguments entirely and - with plenty of opportunity - clearly refuse to articulate a left criticism.

Here's a short, related thread on what has to be seen as the prevailing, anti-communist sentiment of the "
#SOSNicaragua" movement (at least as many of its chroniclers on social media have themselves defined it).https://twitter.com/OLAASM/status/990381947208822784 …The Warring 20s added,

Perhaps the most popular thing on Facebook right now in Nicaragua is nude, slut-shaming, revenge-porn photos allegedly of a leader of UNEN (who was critical of the students in UPOLI). Also, the widespread suggestions that Murillo is herself a "witch" is deeply misogynistic.

Which is something that needs to be addressed, but even with the BRRN platform, the anarchist comrade Miranda doesn't mention these things or confront them. And that's disappointing, because there are very real feminist arguments being made in the protests. Just not from Miranda.

At some point, comrades, you gotta ask yourself who is fighting next to you and what they are fighting for – and if you are lobbing the occasional molotov at the same target (standing with them at the barricades), what your service to their cause is most likely going to create...
