The opposition did infact participate in Venezuela's May 20 elections, anything counter to this is a lie. It was only around March 1, 2018, that Avanzada Progresista left the all-but-imploded MUD (https://bit.ly/2HSducd ). Come July, the MUD coalition had completely collapsed.

The Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD coalition) which is the coalition of anti-Chavismo opposition parties, had been in complete disarray with years of infighting. This is the underlying reason why it was impossible to democratically & electorally compete against the PSUV/Maduro.

Claudio Fermín: Another highly-respected opposition lawmaker who had run & held office for major opposition force Acción Democrática. He had planned to run in 2018 election, but opted to be presidential campaign manager for Henri Falcón, who offered him the Vice Presidency.

At this time last year, we were witnessing silence + conflicting statements from what remained of the MUD opposition (in disarray). Henri Falcón had entered the presidential race; the rest were split on whether to support calls for total boycott, or to endorse him (or violence).

Efforts to oust Chavismo have yielded no success internally. Chavistas overwhelmingly won the state governorships in 2017. Support for the PSUV was too strong a force against the coalition of opposition parties. Delegitimization efforts would require action by the United States.

By my count, all 4 current opposition state governors are from AD (Acción Democrática) which holds National Assembly seats & state legislatures. AD was previously VP candidate Claudio Fermín's party—but Falcón/Fermín don't count as opposition because they ran opposed to Maduro?

Voluntad Popular, which is doing the groundwork right now, is the only opposition group which seems to be recognized (if even) by the US/intl media. That's Guaido's party supposedly—but he's SO obscure he isn't mentioned once on their Wikipedia page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popular_Will …
