Daily reminder that Colombia continues to live a decades-long civil war between govt, paramilitaries, ELN, arguably still affecting the demobilized FARC—affecting campesinos, Indigenous people, the poor—yet Duque allows the use of natl territory as base for US military operations

Average Colombians, particularly in rural country continue to live in extremely sub-standard conditions. Why the media doesn't disclose this is beyond me. Paramilitaries, narco-trafficking, violence, poverty & fear is normalized. Colombia is what most states opt NOT to emulate.

Figures for assassinations of social leaders, trade unionists & campesinos is off the charts. In Ecuador, most people are afraid to visit the border area even though things are cheaper there. Venezuelans have migrated to Colombia to escape inflation, only to return to Venezuela.

This hasn't subsided since the official end of the conflict when the final peace accord document was signed between the government and the FARC in 2016. Violence continues. It's almost impossible to keep up with crime and murders plaguing several Colombian departments.
