And what the FUCK does being ~queer~ have to do with ballroom??? You not of that culture, period. That’s like me, a Nigerian, billing myself as an expert on Carnival. The FUCK do I know about Carinval??? I ain’t got shit to do with that!

Not to take away from her journey to queerness, but this statement by Jameela Jamil defending her casting as a judge on a voguing competition show as a then-closeted person with no connection to the ballroom scene really highlights the fallacy of “using one’s privilege for good.”

One day, we ought to talk about how comfortable we are with sexual misconduct/assault being a part of the "legacies" of famous Black men.

jameela jamil can fully fuck off, being queer is not one single thing and her being queer has shit all to do with the criticisms of her lack of ANY experience with ballroom fucking clown

Dear Jameela Jamil, I am a Black queer-trans person. And I can actually vogue. Still, you will NEVER see my AFAB androgynous ass competing in or hosting a voguing competition. Because the vogue ball is not my space. You’ve got a queer culture. Go find it.

Not trying to start shit but it's cute how both Priyanka Chopra & Jameela Jamil have "Black girls were mean to me" stories in their press kits now but anyway, POC solidarity 'n junk

j*meela j*mil really said "i didn't come out for fear of being silenced so I'm taking a job from trans/non-binary Black people / ballroom folks for representation sake"

By this reasoning, any time a straight person is cast in a queer role or a non trans actor is cast in a trans role, no one should ever voice concerns because.... what if they ARE they just haven’t told us. It’s bullshit and of course her fans are eating it up.

would allow herself to be a judge on a ballroom show, a culture she is not familiar with. The insistence that “Twitter is brutal” and she was bullied into coming out, now makes her a victim of queer people of color (mostly black) who rightly had critiques yesterday. A shame.

Jameela once said she turned down a role as a deaf character because she is not deaf. Announced this publicly to let us know she would never take up space. It is not illogical that many queer people of color yesterday then wanted to know why she, who had not come out as queer
