“It is crazy that in the USA that we don’t have paid family leave.” @SenDuckworth says that companies that do offer family leave hold on to more employees and are more competitive. “We need to think of this as a national economic issue.” #IWD2018http://snpy.tv/2oZ00Tm

Senator Duckworth is a woman, and women are the backbone of the world.

Why not do it the way Canada does it, and let women take the time and collect the UI they've paid into their entire lives? I can see the push-back if employers pay, especially small ones. That outcome would lead to fewer young women being hired

This is why I moved out of the US to Sweden, and now trying to sponsor a permit for my fiance. We are both professionals - I am a press freedom defender, she’s a licensed architect - but no company in the US can offer us anything close to Sweden’s 480-day paid parental leave!

The blame is to be put on the corporate lobby’s in Washington. First outline the problem Amonpour, then you can understand the why’s! Problem is lobby’s, the result is no family leave. Even in Congress!

Why don’t we have it? Why does the U.S. have worse health indicators than some less industrialized countries, but spend more $ on healthcare? Priorities? Please fight the good fight for what is right!

It should be a market competition issue, not a government mandate. For example, my employer offers unlimited PTO. It helps to recruit and retain people.

Don’t you just love people who tell you how to run your business and couch it in terms = it’s for the good of your long term economic well-being. How about let companies decide. If it’s true then the program will expand. Government intervention at this level always ends up bad.

If that’s true then let capitalism work and government should butt out.
