How about we get rid of the concepts of masculinity and femininity and just strive for humanity?!

This seems like a vague naysaying that I have no desire to engage, other than to say we can't ignore our sex role socialization. How about we strive to be gender progressive?

I so agree with this! As a mental health profession, I see males struggle to grasp that they can be strong w/o being violent or aggressive

Susan Faludi explored this in detail in her 1999 book, Stiffed: The Betrayal of the American Man. Norah Ephron put it more elegantly, "I have no desire to be dominated. And yet I find myself becoming angry when my husband has trouble hailing a cab."

What did you dislike about the video?
-
@kennyfellows As an older gentleman that you are, if I have to tell u what's really going on than you already lost my fellow human brother -
Seems like a clever way to say that you didn't really watch the video or have anything worthwhile to add to the conversation.

Ty, Michael. I agree and have felt the same way about the definition of masculinity since my teenage years.
-
That would be your humanity complaining about confinement within the US' tiny little boxed definition of masculinity. Your value isn't printed on your paycheck or your bank statement. She can drive, and you're still a man, in the passenger seat.
-
You made a couple of good points. However I never said I was insecure with myself or the dynamics of my marriage. I was not attacking feminism, my statement was meant in that just as there was definition and redefining in the feminism movement, the same needs to happen for males.
-
I took your statement as someone who'd recognized they'd inherited a less than viable definition of masculinity, not an attack on feminism, nor insecurity. For many men who didn't, they're struggling to reorient.
-
Ok, thank you, there was some misunderstanding there, apologies

Great job on
#AmanpourPBS tonight. It's hard for parents to strike a balance of having an empathetic son that isn't then made a target by the "alphas". Then comes peer pressure. Can't win -
Alphas are intimidation junkies. Don't feed them any variant of "I'm intimidated". As for peer pressure, the men have a lot to say about that,http://www.pbs.org/video/masculinity-in-crisis-ssflna/ …

I have an idea, why dont the crybaby generation of manboys get a JOB. A real gentleman works for his girl, fixes her car, gives her money to shop, buys her little gifts to get a smile, compliments mom in front of JR. Make right decisions with fortitude. This stuff is easy
-
Let me tell you something, even feminists cannot stand too much of this sensitive analyze feelings bs. Making definitive decisions and standing up to nonsense is what women love. Women are the main heart strings, they are built 4 it. We r utilitarian. Compassion yes, feminine no

I am the father of 4 (1 boy) and the key to the masculine discovery is an empowerment of a child to appreciate their genetic build. The 'primal feed'. But EQUALLY important are the ARTS. Being sensitive and caring are THE most MASCULINE traits, often ignored.
