This racist jargon has to stop. I am from Philadelphia and live in MD. And am always asked where I am from. Does that imply all of those asking are racists! I would like to think just curious.

There's nothing racist about it. Constantly asked decades ago at school, of white kids, by white kids. I knew of no American who answered "American". They were asking our heritage. Typical, "half Canadian, quarter German, quarter Yugoslavian", etc.

Yes, friend of mine traveling between Ireland and Britain was asked nationality. She replied Irish. The customs offical not amused asked her for her Irish passport. Still kid her over this.
