.@yanisvaroufakis: “Why did Brexit succeed? It did not succeed because of some deep antipathy towards the EU. It succeeded because a very large percentage of the population were being treated, or felt like they were being treated, like cattle that had lost their market value.”pic.twitter.com/nK3dEErIs4

Poverty and destitution amidst great wealth is not just a paradox, it is a threat to global economic stability.

I like Mr Varoufakis. He's become indispensable to EU debates. But his analysis here is too simplistic. There are cultural and historical reasons which also triggered the ref result. Large portion of the leave vote was from an older generation harking back to a dearly held world

You mean a world where people could be paid a living wage, stay in their home towns and afford a home, and not have to cope with the refugees that come from the promotion of a global economy based on war and weapons?

If they think exiting the EU is going to fix that they're either hopelessly deluded or utterly stupid. And the UK had horrible poverty and unending wars for as long as there has been a UK.

The population felt that way is also mainly due to the fact that they weren't told the whole truth that would've enable them to be their own opinion judge. Yes, the #EU costs but the EU also offers a number of advantages, especially for the younger generations.

It is not about the cost of the EU but the fact post modern imperialism creates massive inequality worldwide. Clearly you have not bothered to learn the truth but waiting to be told it by media and politicians nobody trusts.

And by that, is the EU to be held responsible & to take the entire blame? I may not be bothered to learn the truth you said? You, on the other hand, seem to be somewhat biased towards EU...

So the EU teaches EU populations: ‘If you want to be able to set specific national budgets in order to meet the specific needs of your specific society, organise weeks of violent protests that escalate into all-out riots’. This is what the EU has become. #Brexit

Because what is good for the corporate executives is not good for the workers. Especially automation, tax subsidies, low quality standards, stock buybacks etc. This needs to be discussed. We need to stop subsidizing massive multinationals, completely!!! and stop tax havens!!!
