Poverty and destitution amidst great wealth is not just a paradox, it is a threat to global economic stability.

I like Mr Varoufakis. He's become indispensable to EU debates. But his analysis here is too simplistic. There are cultural and historical reasons which also triggered the ref result. Large portion of the leave vote was from an older generation harking back to a dearly held world
-
You mean a world where people could be paid a living wage, stay in their home towns and afford a home, and not have to cope with the refugees that come from the promotion of a global economy based on war and weapons?
-
If they think exiting the EU is going to fix that they're either hopelessly deluded or utterly stupid. And the UK had horrible poverty and unending wars for as long as there has been a UK.

Paradoxically whilst I am a firm
#Brexiteer and Conservative orientated I find@yanisvaroufakis explanation of the problems with the European Union to be spot on. -
Carry on thinking through that thread my friend...

The population felt that way is also mainly due to the fact that they weren't told the whole truth that would've enable them to be their own opinion judge. Yes, the
#EU costs but the EU also offers a number of advantages, especially for the younger generations. -
It is not about the cost of the EU but the fact post modern imperialism creates massive inequality worldwide. Clearly you have not bothered to learn the truth but waiting to be told it by media and politicians nobody trusts.
-
And by that, is the EU to be held responsible & to take the entire blame? I may not be bothered to learn the truth you said? You, on the other hand, seem to be somewhat biased towards EU...

40 years of being fed lies by the hard right media and fanatics in the Tory party was a huge part of it. And racism coming from those lies.

*This is global*, brexit but a blip on a page therein, NWO neo-lib/con sweeping the planet with corrupt capitalist model that shoe-horns itself in, rather than a perfect fit by any manner or means, into Sovereign economies globally, result=destruction/slavery/usury subservience!?

#Brexit “succeeded because a very large percentage of the population were being treated ... like cattle that had lost their market value” While France is ‘permitted’ to flout EU budget rules to calm French cattle, Italian cattle are prodded once again.pic.twitter.com/IYMohSWQmv

So the EU teaches EU populations: ‘If you want to be able to set specific national budgets in order to meet the specific needs of your specific society, organise weeks of violent protests that escalate into all-out riots’. This is what the EU has become.
#Brexit

So true it's always the poor that suffer and the rich get richer.

Because what is good for the corporate executives is not good for the workers. Especially automation, tax subsidies, low quality standards, stock buybacks etc. This needs to be discussed. We need to stop subsidizing massive multinationals, completely!!! and stop tax havens!!!

I do love Yanis Varoufakis. I wonder if he'd like to run for UK Prime Minister? I believe we'll have a vacancy in the very near future.
-
They'd probably close the banks on him again
