Well, no—the data is incomplete & doesn’t show the rates of penalisation. How many times are players given soft warnings vs penalties, or have outbursts which receive neither? Having that data is the only way to determine comparative penalisation rates @cnni @nytimes

Last night I applied all my PhD methodology training to explain the umpire/Serena situation, and what tennis should do to KNOW if an ump is sexist. You're welcome. https://badtoss.wordpress.com/2018/09/14/want-to-know-if-an-ump-is-sexist-heres-how/ …

The study doesn't show that. It shows that male players are fined more, but that could be because they misbehave more. (Indeed, from watching a fair bit of tennis, the men do misbehave more). This data doesn't tell us anything about whether they're punished at greater rates. https://twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/1040933668708069376 …

NO! and btw how was the umpire sexist when a woman was playing a woman? Serena is a very soar loser and always has been. Just look at some videos of her on youtube over the years.

Something tells me women didn't need stats to know this. Men are idiots women aren't. Serena was an ass on the court (and has been many times previously). Sexism is everywhere but please pick a different spokeswoman, serena got what she deserved.

It was a weak and emotional response from a great player @serenawilliams. Haven't the attention hungry media gotten enough from her situation? Why does the media keep regurgitating the same thing over and over and over? Now leave the woman alone.

They may be penalized the same, but the public “outcry” is far different. Also, breaking a racket is not subjective, but other penalties are. She was penalized for something he doesn’t penalize male players for. So this article isn’t even relevant
