This is an incredibly valuable tool for journalists right now. I’ve covered war and conflict throughout my career, but this explains conflict reporting much closer to home, especially in today’s tribalized political climate. Well worth the long read.https://thewholestory.solutionsjournalism.org/complicating-the-narratives-b91ea06ddf63 …

"Usually, reporters do the opposite. We cut the quotes that don’t fit our narrative. Or our editor cuts them for us. We look for coherence, which is tidy — and natural. The problem is that, in a time of high conflict, coherence is bad journalism, bordering on malpractice."

Good story! Journalists put a name on their work but I am more worried about groups like Cambridge Analytica who work in the shadows with all kinds of dirty tricks with no oversight or accountability

Journalism is failing because it is no longer about the facts. It’s like a gawdy picture frame-you can’t see the painting. It is now about the reporter, his suffering, his opinion, his struggle, etc. The story is“not about you!!!!” But modern journalists make the story about them.

What would incentivize publishers to try this? "The lesson for journalists (or anyone) working amidst intractable conflict: complicate the narrative...When people encounter complexity, they become more curious and less closed off to new information. They listen, in other words."

Conflict mgmt. Real people and a list of agreed upon facts. Round table...magic. Journalists vaenr solve this one by talking amongst themselves and paid hacks. Need REAL PEOPLE ON CAMERA! YOU OWE US @CNN , @FOX AND @MSNBC! #RealPeopleTalkTruthNow

Amanpour believes the catastrophic decline in mainstream media credibility is a consequence of them not being good enough in manipulating pubic opinion and suggests studying psychology. No, Chrirstiane, the lack of trust is based on the outright lying by unscrupulous journalists
