There is no job that is meaningless, Mr. Anthropologist!

1. I didn't say "meaningless" I said pointless, 2. I'm just saying if the guy doing the job says it's pointless, s/he would know. Maybe you know better.
-
My apologies. I spoke before I listened to the interview. I've always been defensive about nonprofessional jobs, due to my lack of not going to college. Pls accept my sincere apology.
-
No worries! It's the guys in the jobs that require degrees that are most likely to think their work is pointless truth be told
-
Perhaps some significant part of the higher educational complex exists to lend perceived scarcity and hence legitimacy to the people rewarded for bullshit.

It's interesting the number of people I've spoken to, who do worthy and useful jobs, that have a controlling, interfering supervisor whose only job seems to be making their life hell. How many jobs actually need supervision?
-
type 5 in my typology actually is "taskmasters" - those who supervise workers who don't actually need supervision, and also those who make up bullshit for others to do.

Still reading your book :)

Perhaps, but no-one's going to fund meaningless employment if it isn't profitable.
-
Of course they will. "Get a job"(always said aggressively) is an ideological not a practical suggestion
-
So employers are altruists giving money away in return for nothing?
-
Managerial feudalism. Executives don't care about what's good for their companies, so much as they care about remaining executives. Loyalty is more important than excellence, which is entirely optional.
-
For privately owned companies sure, but everyone else answers to shareholders.
-
yes I know, since it can't be happening, then it must not be. Just ignore what the people who actually work in those corporations say is happening, ignore all the people who say they only work two hours a week... they must be wrong. They have to be.

...definitely not reading 'the fucking book' now.
