Sometimes feel like gamedev/art communities are obsessed with age. Societal pressure to be successful at as young an age as possible is so mentally draining, and I see so many people suffering because of it.

1000% agree. The strangest thing is that although a lot of youngsters are talented, they've no life experience. I'm a set designer in theatre. Most designers are seasoned and not 20. You don't see a lot of young set designers Unless they have good connections... lol

I think portfolio is key for 3D game arts. There's a lot of other things to chat about, particularly class & wealth/time attributed to success, but age shouldn't deter people to start!

it's to key to breaking in but then it becomes more about experience on an actual game production this is why QA is often suggested as a good way to get said experience to help push into that entry role

Yeah! I've heard about that before! Been keeping my eye out on a few roles... But definitely important to notice that QA is a profession within its own, full of a load of dedicated peeps!

yeah it's both a stepping stone and a profession (albeit not as deep as other departments), it's basically whatever you want out of it really
