What's your favourite modelling package, and do you think you need to be proficient in all / more than one of them to get that entry level job in the industry?

I flick between a bunch of packages, but eventually you learn they all have ups and downs, and that your skills as an artist are more important than the tools (coming from a TA as well). Also usually if you know one that's enough, and you'd get time to learn the studio's package

I much much prefer to model in Max, but I find sub-d modelling best in Maya.. but then splines are crap. It's all a give and take :(

the problem if you try and specialise in one package is you'll likely have to shift packages for different companies/projects, but usually they'll give you time to adjust so it's no biggy

100%! It's about being versatile. I think usually its' interfaces and hotkeys that are the biggest headaches... but that's all stuff that can be learned with time. Things like the basics of modelling/unwrapping etc. can be learned throughout each package!

Yeah and tbf Maya hotkeys are generally the standard across most packages, so I always stick to those
