I'm seeing everyone go crazy for trim textures lately. Find it kind of ironic because it's such an old school technique - yet it's a pretty fundamental technique in environment art. It's also my fav technique (1/3) #gamedev #gameart

Why aren't more schools teaching this to environment artists? If I was reviewing your portfolio (env) I couldn't give a shit if you can bake an asset - these days with substance it's so straight forward, I would expect this as minimum. (2/3)

I'd rather see thought put into the context and how to work within limitations because that's the job. Use trims, tiling materials, detail maps. Heck even combine these techniques and baking, runtime blending etc. (3/3)
