Reminder: audiobooks count as books. Romance novels, graphic novels, etc etc are all real books. It counts as reading. And anyone who disagrees can fight me out back.
When people are down, they don't want to hear "Cheer up!" Pushing them to be positive invalidates their emotions.
They don't want to be told how to feel. They want to know you care about how they feel.
The goal isn't always to feel better. Sometimes it's just to be understood.

Cash the $500 purple chips you found in your laptop bag as you race to check out and make your flight on time.
Watching a new Wes Anderson movie is always nostalgia-inducing. While the story is new, the super-structure of the film is still uniquely WA's style of old. You watch something new, but you're always reminded of something old.
Personally, that has been a positive experience.
