tldr -- it's actually unfair to hire juniors, expect them to do grunt work with no support, and then watch them burn out on confusion and modelling too many rocks. (Also, producers ain't able to fix this -- you need discipline leads to have time to mentor juniors).

juniors are important and necessary for diversity, futureproofing our industry, and a million other reasons but i will flat out ban hiring juniors if there isn't senior/lead support to ensure that their career growth and mentoring is adequately taken care of.

yes, but also i worry about studios hiring juniors without having leads and infrastructure to support β€˜em β€” it can be pretty distressing to have to flail unsupported when you’re starting out, and im pretty sure it impacts our average game dev lifespan being 5y 😬

all these pics and vids are from my home roads β€” but for my international friends, this is serious. Check in on your akl friends. 7ml is considered heavy rain, this was *75* β€” that’s a whole summer’s worth of rain in less than 24hrs, in a tropical climate that is used to storms.

very stressed about my fam and friends up in west auckland. Many roads blocked, many without power or water (that first pic is the mains pipe that has been washed away). My dad’s a builder, has been helping to clear roads and fortify homes that are in danger of washing away

Would I recommend it? - If you need a hard reset on your shamble of a sleep schedule, yep! - Waking up earlier has not made me a morally better person, don't buy into waking up late = lazy myth - Starting work 4 hrs after wakeup has definitely improved my am productivity

because i keep bumping into people that are unaware: barone was a solo dev, but that required years of financial and living support from his partner and family. SDV may have been a dev'd solo, but it would never have seen the light of day without a monumental community effort.
