40 years before Billie Jean King vs. Bobby Riggs, a "Battle of the Sexes" tennis match was played in San Francisco. On January 28, 1933, #1 Helen Wills, @Cal Class of 1926, defeated US Men's #8 Phil Neer, 6-3, 6-4. Neer was a Stanford alum and 1921 NCAA Singles Champion.
