That's a very good quote from Sartre but Zuck ultimately oversees a huge communication platform. It would be more prudent to block such "bad-faith actors" rather than give them free rein and hope people realize they don't really mean it.
-
I agree with you 1,000%. And I think what Zuck either doesn't get, or doesn't care about is twofold: First, their speech, by nature, will suppress the speech of marginalized people through intimidation. Second, providing a platform will result in recruitment, even if...1

only 99% of the people who read it dismiss it as garbage. With Facebook's daily traffic, that's a lot of angry bigot eyeballs. X
-
And giving them a platform validates their positions. Taking away their platform gives them the opportunity to cry the blues and play the victim, but they can cry about that all they like on someone else's platform. He's just plain wrong about this.
-
It's not giving them a platform. Is allowing someone to speak on a public street corner "giving them a platform"?
-
If you build a high-tech sidewalk that amplifies the sound you make and allows you to reach thousands of miles in every direction... yes. (Moreover, just for reference: Facebook is *not* "public.")

This is the logical conclusion of Facebook’s policy that there is apparently no such thing as objective truth or facts
-
The only objective fact they recognize is their stock price.
-
Which of course at base isn't objective.

I'm starting to think letting billionaire men run our world isn't the best idea, guys.
-
Billionaire men have always ‘run our world’
-
A.) Not true. B.) That wouldn't mean it's good.
-
How is that not true? Maybe not as high as billionaire, but rich men have always called the shots, and, most recently (last several hundred years), it’s been rich white men. What part isn’t true?
-
My point is "always" is a long time, and there are even cultures in which women have "always" run things. And even in our culture, we haven't always had "rich" people, much less "rich" men. These are all fairly modern ideas, involving capitalism, from the last few thousand years
-
And, more importantly, we can change it still. Women need more power, non-white people need more power, and non-rich people need more power. If we believe the untruth that rich men have always run things, we don't see any way it can change. They haven't, however, and it can.
