because of the definition as "BMI of 30 or above", which doesn't take into account why a person weighs a lot (fat or muscles?)

Because this is based on BMI - which doesn't have anything to do with fitness or muscle mass to fat ratio.

I would argue that grouping athletes with actors, artists and reporters skews the data. That seems like an odd combination.
