@calestous@ramez Those concerns are mostly outweighed by the 1,000,000 people killed by mosquito-borne diseases every year. -
@calestous@ramez Obviously it needs to be done carefully, but a gene drive that prevents mosquitoes from smelling humans would be low risk. -
@calestous@ramez It should of course be tested carefully in BSL3 labs and then in the wild on an island far from any continents. -
@calestous@ramez Alternately, a modification that just prevents Plasmodium replication might be lower risk but would only cure malaria.
