My heart is bursting. On the eve of my first child's birth, my dad - who's been in prison nearly my entire life - was granted clemency. He never intended harm, yet his crime devastated many families. My heart breaks for the families that can never get their loved ones back.

“Hours before leaving office, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday granted clemency” -
@AP Seems like a lot of people are glossing over this detail. The timing is a bit weird, no?13 replies 16 retweets 314 likes -
He posted that he did so for a variety of people. I don’t think the timing was meant to be hidden. People do that before leaving office often. How Chesa’s dad got on that list seems more interesting. I’m sure being DA in SF made that deal a lot easier.

To be honest, I don’t blame Chesa for leveraging his clout to do so. It’s the causal relationship where this is happening TODAY as a direct consequence of Andrew Cuomo leaving office as a result of being pushed to resign that doesn’t sit right with me.

This is why we need a new clemency process. Too many well-connected politicians get what not enough innocent or deserving average prisoners have a ghost of a chance of receiving: a closer look.http://Californiaclemency.org
