By "not accessable" they mean that full time employment in a majority of the country forces you into extreme poverty, preventing your from purchasing even minor luxuries like hair and skin care, etc.

I’m officially old because I can’t understand the next gen’s ideas of empathy. Support unions and fair wages and participate in democracy by voting out corrupt politicians filling up their cronies’ coffers. Don’t support theft and muggings and breakins. So woke, yet so blind :(

We do support unions. The left has been trying to support minimum wage increases and more union membership for 40 years. What has that gotten us? Theft occurs when someone is desperate and feels they have no other choice. I empathize with that, because that's an awful feeling.

Theft occurs when someone feels like they can get away with it. Which will happen more and more as it becomes more & more true.

Ignoring the material conditions that create crime in favor of a punishment is deranged, and clearly hasn't worked. If the goal is to avoid crime, the very simple and effective way to ensure it doesn't happen is eliminate poverty.

I agree with this sentiment. I just don’t agree with the earlier empathizing with property theft… just because the victim is a faceless corporation. This isn’t just happening to Walgreens, but to mom and pop stores, and to numerous ind. citizens and tourists of the city as well.

I'm sure it is. I feel far more empathy for the individual who cannot afford simple things like body wash, or hair care products than I do for even "mom and pop" stores. I understand that American culture values property over human life, but I refuse to think that way.

Did we even watch the same video? The dude empties an entire shelf’s worth of products into a trash bag and you think he’s doing it because of his hygiene needs? I guess you haven’t had your bike stolen or car broken into, hence you can’t empathize with property ownership.

Every bike I've ever had has been stolen, as teens my sister's was even stolen the FIRST DAY we rode them (double chained them up to go into a comic book store), car and home both have been broken into, my other sister's car was stolen on Christmas, ... etc. People > property

(I woke up too early, couldn't get back to sleep, & thought more about this. Also I'm a wordy mfer.) Not only is it people>property, but these kinds of crimes are done by individuals or small groups w/ little to no social influence. But it is institutions, systems, or... [1/?]

Basically, it is very unlikely that a kid who steals my bike comes from a home where they can ask for a bike and have one the next day, just as I can't immediately replace it. But the reason they can't just buy one, & the reason I can't easily replace mine, is bc those who[3/4]
