Catherine the Great established the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea in 1783 when Washington was US president. WW2: 100,000 Soviets died defending Crimea from Hitler. Crimea is Russia. Khrushchev, a Ukrainian, gifting Crimea to Ukraine after Stalin died was illegal.
