The only argument against the observation that the US/NATO/Ukraine power structure could easily have prevented this war with a few low-cost diplomatic concessions is "Actually Putin would have invaded anyway because he's a cartoon supervillain who does evil things for no reason."

Most humans don't care a lot about the truth, they just want to belong.
The West has the best institutions that entice belonging mostly entertainment channels. The news is just a cherry on top☹

Truth has a ruthless way of manifesting itself. At 9:15 am on 6 August 1945 the people of Hiroshima were just milling around “belonging” as you put it. Then in a flash they discovered that the people of the US vaporised 150,000 of their friends and neighbours. Evil?

I doubt Ukrainians would consider accepting the loss of territory as a low cost diplomatic concession.

I doubt it will rain but one look out the window removed my doubt. Also, would you “doubt” the real Americans “consider accepting” the loss of their territory (Turtle Island)? Actually they did accept through treaties but the US reneged in all of them. Might makes right…🤔

Actually Putin’s unfortunate circumstances of being, along with China, the balance of power in world of violent war obsessed NATOUKUSAEU aggression compelled him. He is not a madman. He had no choice

American hegemony and power only ever grows at times of war. The fact Putin disregarded this fact and initiated the war is unforgivable.

Alternatively, there is the idea in some Russian circles that believe an independent Ukraine should not exist. It is the "Ukraine question" for which they have a final solution.

Unfortunately that's the world many people seem to live in, with supervillains (enemies of US empire) and superheroes (oligarchs of US empire).
