        Distribution map of sites with Roman-era camel remain in Europe, showing an extensive spread from Iberia and Frances across to the Balkans and the Black Sea coast. Finds are mainly situated in the northern parts of the empire.

        The geographic distribution of areas with rainwater/drinking-water oxygen isotope values below ‑12.0‰, shown in black; the location of the eighth- to tenth-century Islamic necropolis at Tauste, Spain, is marked in red.         Do we know how long these goods were in circulation ? Their story if ever it can told will be amazing.

        Some were buried in mint condition, so didn't circulate for long (e.g. some of the coins buried in China), others were buried etc sometime after (e.g. Byzantine silver plate in Russia) :)

        Thanks, Always wondered about these artefacts as a retired shipmaster once remembered in the early sixties being given Marie Theresa coins in payment for a cargo.

        Yes, those lasted in circulation for a very long time. Sand with done Roman Republican issues. By and large, most of the dots on my map were made and buried in Late Antiquity, fwiw :) the main exception are the Russian finds :)
