Took a walk around Lincoln Cathedral today & @CatherineEsse pointed out that one gargoyle is mysteriously covered up by the south porch — the one known as the 'Devil looking over Lincoln'…pic.twitter.com/TK3QINihpE

Did they ever say why it was covered?
No, but I only asked last night :-)
Hi, I shall find out for you on Monday
S
Thank you! Much appreciated :)
Hi Caitlin, he is covered in safety netting as there was signs of cracking. We want to maintain the whole carving so that we have a good representation to recarve from. I hope that helps! Sam
Thanks Sam! So, no sinister goings on in the Cathedral of the type M. R. James might imagine? I'm both relieved and a little disappointed...! ;)
May I ask if a recarving is imminent, Sam? The netting covering seems to have been in place for ?several years now? which seems sad given the prominence of that particular gargoyle, together with the imp, in the cathedral’s fame
I’m afraid not Catherine. The building dictates the programme of repair and there are a number of areas due for repair before the South side. We are constantly fundraising to support the maintenance of the building and so any ideas you may have are always welcome! Sam
