Don't know exactly where the story came from, but it is the right date, and was in the right place (by the altar, in Shaftesbury, where Cnut died. There must be some documentary evidence for the death and burial that the twittersphere can assist us with...?

Thanks! Does seem more than a little suspicious, but the legend does bring a little extra magic to the already remarkable piece.

This is the only complete late #AngloSaxon (10th-11th c) #glass vessel in England as far as I know, which makes it amazing. The @CanutusRex story is a bonus :)

What an astonishing thing to find! Quite happy to believe the tale. Anglo-Saxon glassware must have been incredibly rare & expensive, and to find a complete piece...wow!
