Absolutely! :) Mosaicists also travelled far afield in the 6thC, to Ctesiphon and Sana'a, Yemen :)
As @19Averil observed, they didn't have to travel, as they were already living and working in lands that were/recently were Byz.
In ref to Damascus? Yes agreed, tho' interesting nonetheless :) On Ctesiphon+Sana'a, Ennius's tweet simply brought these distant ex to mind.
Is there evidence of the movement of this type of skilled labour rather than just drawing on the available local skills market?
