I just wondered if people on the continent have scary stories about wolves rather than dogs. When I was an au pair the kids used to try to scare me with wolf stories (and succeeded only in scaring themselves, natch).

Within folklore it’s all related. Wolves/dogs, wild/domesticated, funerary practice, dogs as protectors of living and dead, carrion eaters, funerary practises, ritual behaviours etc.
