Another fallen tree—over 30 feet long—from the drowned Mesolithic forest that lies off the coast at Mablethorpe: https://www.flickr.com/photos/29450962@N08/5008766965/in/photostream/ …pic.twitter.com/PKnBCcgTIb
Hello Doc -- I am stunned. I am a gardener - I watch fauna deteriorate ( very quickly ) - I am gobsmacked at this preservation.
It's fabulous, and all along the coastline both in Lincolnshire and beyond. Just out there below the beach and/or low tide mark.....!
I must swot up on my chemistry
It's the waterlogging that is responsible, prevents decay, I believe :)
I must ask. How did they get Barnack stone from Pilgate, Welland into the Nene then to Ramsey?
Sleds and barges, I suspect?!
In Baltic Sea close to the southern coastline of Bornholm its also possible to see the remains of this enormous forest - when sea is calm
It's wonderful what lies just below the surface...! When does that one date from, same era?
My guess - same era.
