I can trace some of my ancestors back to Woden. It's amazing what you can do at 3.00am when you run out of parish records...
Indeed—I do love how all this kind of thing get treated so utterly seriously on some genealogy websites!
I agree. On some sites you can even trace yourself back to Adam and Eve...!
Genealogy can be fun but also off the wall…! Although I do enjoy Settipani's attempts to link mediaeval dynasties with Imperial Rome etc :)
I have never read any of his work, so am not really qualified to have an opinion, but from what I know his theories seem a bit flimsy!
It's just relief to see someone not relying on mediaeval pseudo-histories! But yes, fair dose of speculation in there, fun nonetheless tho'!
Woden as in Odin? And *then* back to Adam? Astonishing piece of syncretism if so
Indeed! Usually so identified, yes, and the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle links Woden & Adam :)
I can trace my family back to Woden, too, albeit via a few fairly rotten people...!
Ah, the glories of medieval genealogy!
indeed, indeed! They still celebrate one of my ancestors dying in certain bits of Lancashire...!
Thanks for sharing! It's been an interesting day of Woden leaning genealogies, this and the @PublicDomainRev on Washington.
Thanks for pointing me to this :)
You're very welcome.
That's incredible!
