Section on the supposed origins of the legend is basic at best & shows no awareness of work by Dumville, Padel etc since the mid-1970s :-/

Fwiw, I'd suggest Wikipedia article on King Arthur is def superior, which is worrisome given seems to be advert for new Arthurian centre.
-

I thought that too. I think anyone with any interest in Arthuriana would have to have been living in a cave to know less!
-
Exactly! Bit worrying given that seems to be advert for new Arthurian centre by its director :-/
-
"Wanted: Director for new Arthurian Centre. Experience not essential."

Excuse my ignorance but I thought he was fictional. King Alfred fills the space better, probably.
-
I would view him as primarily folkloric hero who was historicised using mix of real and legendary/mythical events in 9thC :)
-
King Alfred is still definitely my main man for great historical king.

Hasn't each generation from Giraldus to Tennyson reinterpreted him to suit their needs and then gone looking for evidence?
-
Very true, & an interesting article in that; this, alas, is not it, I fear :-/
-
Shame, as it is a snapshot of national views each time it is retcon'd. I shan't trouble myself on your advice

Things must be pretty bad if we are now evoking Arthur (though bit surprising he wasn't wheeled out for EURef with St George(

You'll break their little hearts.

Not sure about that, but as it seems to be an advert for a new Arthurian centre I'd kinda hope for better...!
-
ooooh. Alt-Arthur facts. (perhaps they won't co-opt him for nationalist purposes?)(now I've made myself ill.)
