is it true the stories of visiting syria are only legend? that construction looks like it was made by damascene artisans.
just read they say architect was armenian ... though i still wonder if he came by way of damascus :)
It is glorious! I seem to recall reading that it was poss modelled after churches in Ravenna/Constantinople...? :)
much like octagonal dome of the rock (built in jerusalem 688-692) which itself was said to be modeled on byzantine churches
