A great & painful story on destruction/vandalism. Attitudes change so slowly - Hadrian's Wall still at quarry risk til 1950s!

Have you seen any evidence for post-Roman re-occupation within villas? I see lots of settlement nearby, but never within.
It made me wonder if the mosaic imagery was considered "spooky"/"bad luck" to the newcomers who didn't understand its myths.
Interesting question—definite burials, & evidence for maintenance of roof at Denton to ?6thC, also objects from villa sites...
But villa part of declining economy, difficulties maintaining etc, so moved to new sites, nearby, in most cases? Etc etc! :)
I bet maintaining was hard! Easier & more sensible to recycle or relocate - esp if you have no/weak cultural ties to the old.
