Prison cell was under the cathedral bells & must have been most unpleasant! Picture shows Sir Joseph Banks visiting the cell in the L18thC.
How long do you suppose the average prisoner lasted before having to be transferred to Bedlam?
Not long I suspect! Most refs to use in 16thC... had less worries back then, perhaps?!
amazing ! Dr Caitlin can i discuss something??
Sure :)
Thanks can i dm you??
Yes, not a problem :)
thanks a lot :)
How incredible. I wonder how many prisoners died just trying to get into their cell? Or maybe that was the idea....
Not a bad point...!
Yeeks. Looks like the only prison cell where you'd feel safer once you got there.
It's def rather alarming looking!
It looks like escape could be tricky after they pulled the ladder back. Probably wouldn't even have had to lock the door!
Absolutely----most secure!
were they fed by the guards?
I assume so---definitely a high risk occupation!
was it just debtors prison where they weren't fed? Like the Clink?
just a wee bit
no chance of a milkman there!
