Fwiw, some good discussion of the London find in this lecture on Roman London w/ video, powerpoint & transcript :) http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/artefacts-and-the-study-of-life-in-roman-london …
@caitlinrgreen so Rhine-Danube corridor accounts for most?
@MarkBrierley1 Def looks that way!
@caitlinrgreen the dots on the map made me think of the european banana https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Banana …
@de_naerd Oh, true!
How many findspots directly related to the Roman Army? Presumably many items were brought as souvenirs by troops?
A fair number, it's thought! But some from high-status burials too etc :)
Made me think of my grandmother's 'Ypres' brooch, brought back by grandfather from WWl service. Soldiers never change!
Wonder how many #finds like this would be known if we had a fully funded #pan-european @findsorguk recording all public discoveries
Do not enter into Brexit debate. Try first contact @Inrap as closest neighbour.
@caitlinrgreen @irarchaeology wow the wave (?) motif on the terret ring looks very modern, looks like a surfers tshirt
.@caitlinrgreen interesting article,with useful map. Britain in that time produced beautiful products, it didn't depend on service economy.
@caitlinrgreen Fascinating- always a suspect assumption that our predecessors weren't highly mobile - if only sporadically.
@caitlinrgreen Love 'artefactual evidence', what a fascinating post.
@caitlinrgreen Fascinating! Especially the finds near Cologne. Any indication on how long British presence lasted there?
