@caitlinrgreen The first thing I notice is that sailors were paid better in the 7th century than in the 19th century. -

@caitlinrgreen I mean, it makes sense. Especially in the late 19th century, competition was so so fierce, owners cutting costs everywhere. -
@caitlinrgreen Your average big sailing ship in those days had a crew of 28, over half of them unpaid apprentices.
