@caitlinrgreen We are still thankful to him. Constant flooding would be devastating to the real estate market.
@AStrinnholm Hah! Yes, I can see how that might be an issue....! ;)
@caitlinrgreen Tjelvar, Graip, Gunnfjaun, Hwitstjärna etc are still common names on ships, restaurants etc on Gotland.
@AStrinnholm I do enjoy how local folklore is preserved in this manner! Similar for Havelok in NE Lincolnshire :)
@caitlinrgreen - not so different from what my Grandad used. Or, indeed, me.
@Geograph_Bob Yes, remarkable how little changed over a 1,000 yrs in that regard at least!
@caitlinrgreen I recall seeing a Roman trenching tool in Northumberland - indistinguishable from the one my dad brought home from WW2.
@skogsmunk It appears to be a fabulous museum, am v jealous! :)
still love this
Yes, agree! Fascinating survival! :)
agree could still be put to use today. Not sure historians will say the same thing about our things
@caitlinrgreen great pic. Somethings just don't change.
@caitlinrgreen looks like some of the tools could of been made yesterday
@richardhesketh4 Absolutely, v well preserved and familiar forms, I'm told!
@caitlinrgreen some look like blacksmiths tools and one looks like a small hacksaw. Wouldn't look out of place in a modern day hardware shop
