If the C14 dating of the early quranic fragments IS wrong, it's not obvious how - the protocols are excellent. It's all very puzzling...

@holland_tom Not been following this, but is it a single C14 measurement? If so, these can be subject to error, seehttps://books.google.co.uk/books?id=JFy4tCrd-YIC&pg=PA125#v=onepage&q&f=false …

@caitlinrgreen I am assured by those whose opinions I trust that the protocols are excellent, & the results not botched.

@holland_tom Oh am sure they are :) Just part of normal statistical variability of C14 process afaik, hence multiple measurements needed etc

@DorothyKing @caitlinrgreen 2 fragments have been C14 dated: one to 543-643, the other to 433-599.

@DorothyKing @caitlinrgreen Yes, but that was in Arizona. The previous two were in the same Lyon lab.

@caitlinrgreen The Sana'a fragment was discounted as aberrant - but the Birmingham fragment backs it up. That's why this issue has flared up

@caitlinrgreen @holland_tom C14 dating can't be wrong its just the error factor which need to be considered while making any opinion on it

@ijazbadshah1 @caitlinrgreen It can be wrong, & may be in this case - but if so, it's not obvious what's distorting the results.

@holland_tom @caitlinrgreen It may need a strong scientific evidence to prove it wrong & in absence of it no objective coclusions be drawn
